The children engaged in a variety of experiences, including numeracy experiences to develop number recognition and counting, fine motor threading with cereal, and line tracing to strengthen pencil control. They explored their creativity through drawing planets, moulding play dough, constructing space-themed LEGO creations, and imaginative role-play with space puppets.
Personally, I observed hoe these experiences catered to different developmental areas and interests, fostering both skills and confidence. It was rewarding to see the children so engaged, particularly during the imaginative play.
For today experience during craft time, children showed great creativity and focus as they made sea animals like jellyfish and octopuses out of recycled paper cups and coloured paper. They carefully cut, glued, and assembled their creations, demonstrating growing confidence in their motor skills. later, they were excited to “rescue” sea animals that had been trapped on tape, using their fingers and tweezers to peel them off.
To build on this experience I plan to introduce a sensory small-world ocean play setup and books about sea creatures to deepen their engagement and understanding.
Today in the dramatic play area, the children were deeply engaged in pretending to cook in the kitchen corner. They collaborated to make “vegetable soup”, carefully selecting toy vegetables, stirring them in pots, and proudly serving they finished meal to the educator. It was lovely to see their enthusiasm and how naturally they took on different roles, some as cook, others as customers.
This experience supported their social and language development, as children negotiated roles, shared ideas, and used rich vocabulary related to cooking and food. It also encouraged imaginative thinking and helped build a sense of belonging as they invited me to join in their play.
