Today, the educator introduced a creative sharing experience using rolls of paper towels cut into different shapes. As a group we made a collaborative decision to use the green colour for our artwork. The children used their fine motor skills to pick up the shaped rollers and stamp patterns onto the paper, exploring texture, shape, and colour in a hands-on way.
The experience provided a meaningful opportunity for the children to express themselves creatively and practice decision-making by choosing the colour together. Reflecting on the experience through the lens of the Early Years Learning Framework EYLF (AGDE, 2022), it strongly aligned with learning outcomes as they contributed to a shared creative project and expressed their preferences confidently. Children developed fine motor control and experiencing success in their creations.
This morning, the children engaged in a range of experiences that supported their fine motor development, visual identification, and creative expressions. We began the day with group time, singing songs and greeting each other, which set a positive and connected tone for the morning. Throughout the day, children participated in:
A counting experience where each child was given a rocket ship with a number and collected the matching numbers of “moon rocks” building early numeracy skills and one-to-one correspondence.
A fishing game where they found fish in the water and identified their numbers and colours, supporting cognitive development and classification skills.
A creative painting experience linked to our solar system topic.
Reflecting on this, I recognise that such moments are valuable for understanding and guiding children’s behaviour in positive ways. To support their self-regulation and social skills, I used gentle reminders, clear expectations, and positive reinforcement. The reflection reminded me of the importance of balancing engaging, stimulating experiences with consistent guidance that helps children build confidence in managing their feeling and behaviour.
Children explored a variety of rich learning experiences that supported their creativity, sensory, exploration, literacy, and physical development. For our art and craft experience, the children had a blast stamping paint with foil balls to create colourful planets and moons, building their fine motor skills and experimenting with texture.
In the sensory tray, the children explored rice and sea animals, sparking wonderful conversations about textures, habitats, and marine life. Later, using recyclable paper cups and colourful paper, they designed and built their own space crafts, showing great imagination and problem-solving as they planned and constructed their creations.
