This morning, we began with a respectful acknowledgement of the traditional custodians of the land, fostering the connection to the country. During indoor play, the lemon-scented yellow play dough was a highlight. The children enthusiastically explored its texture and scent, shaping it creatively while developing their fine motor skills and sensory awareness.
I noticed that acknowledging country not only nurtures cultural awareness but also set a calm, respectful tone in the morning. The play dough experience was very successful in promoting sensory exploration and creativity.
Today, children participated in a variety of engaging experiences. They collaborated with educators to make a playdough, which they then used to create faces showing different emotions and to model firefighters, supporting their social-emotional learning and imaginative play. The experienced was strengthened through threading pasta onto pipe cleaners and building tall towers with Legos.
The day highlighted how a balanced creative, physical experiences can cater to diverse interests and developmental needs, while also reminding me to remain responsive and adaptive to each child’s individual learning style.
The children engaged in a creative colouring experience where they expressed themselves artistically while strengthening their fine motor skills. the open-ended experience allowed each child to work at their own pace and follow their individual interest. They also explored an exciting sensory play experience using ice blocks with pasta frozen inside. This hands-on investigation encouraged curiosity, problem-solving and rich sensory exploration (ACECQA, 2018).
During the sensory exploration, I was pleased to see children naturally assisting each other and celebrating each other’s discoveries.
